This year the focus is VTE.  There will be various presentations and interactive sessions over the two days as well as free paper sessions, the Phlebology RSM Press lecture, award reports, a trade exhibition and a dinner at the end of the first day. Academy for Healthcare Science: Leadership Event for Healthcare Scientists 

Monday 30th April - Tuesday 1st May 2012. Central Hall, Westminster, London

major event for healthcare scientists, providing a unique opportunity to hear and
engage with leading figures from the Department of Health, NHS and other major
healthcare organisations about the key issues for healthcare scientists as we move
towards implementing the changes in April 2013. Exclusively for healthcare
scientists, the event is being developed by the NHS SHA Cluster Scientific Directors
and senior healthcare scientists from the Health Protection Agency and NHS Blood &
Transplant. The event will focus on the critical role that healthcare scientists need to
play in delivering better outcomes for patients and the public. It will highlight how
healthcare scientists need to use their leadership skills to effectively influence at a
local level, how they can drive forward the innovation agenda, can use new
education and training programmes to support new ways of working and use science
and knowledge to improve practice. The event is supported by the Academy for
Healthcare Science as well as other NHS organisations.
Speakers include:
• Andrew Lansley, CBE, Secretary of State for Health
• Sir David Nicholson, NHS Chief Executive and Chief Executive of the NHS
Commissioning Board Special Health Authority
• Professor Dame Sally Davies, Chief Medical Officer
• Sir Ian Carruthers, Chief Executive NHS South of England
• Sir John Tooke, Academy of Medical Sciences, Vice Provost (Health) and
Head of the Medical School at University College London
• Professor Sue Hill, DH Chief Scientific Officer
Vivienne Parry, a scientist and professional broadcaster, with a proven track record
of maximising value and giving everyone a voice at professional forums, returns to
the healthcare arena to facilitate the event.

networks and SHA Clusters
