Job summary

The Vascular Laboratory at King's College Hospital has a rare opportunity to recruit a band 8a Senior Clinical Vascular Scientist. Applications are invited from those with accreditation with College and Society for Vascular Science (CSVS) or HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist in vascular science. This role will have a leading focus on teaching and training so come and help us shape our training strategy for the future!

Main duties of the job

The post will be based at Denmark Hill but will require candidates to contribute to clinics at other locations. The post-holder will scan and report independently on the full range of vascular ultrasound investigations while leading on training, ensuring rotations are in place for STP trainees and monitoring trainee progress.Maintaining and developing relationships with our training partners is vital to this post. We have a very successful track record with 100% of our STP trainees completing the programme first time. CSVS Accredited or HCPC registered clinical vascular scientists who don't quite have the experience for the senior role may be eligible for a post at band 7 and are also encouraged to apply.We are a responsive team with a reputation within the trust for providing an excellent service to our patients and referring clinical teams. We enjoy close and positive working relationships with many of our colleagues around the trust including those in Vascular Surgery, Renal, Diabetic Foot Clinic and Radiology.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Performing and reporting on peripheral vascular ultrasound investigations and the interesting and varied pathology seen in a tertiary referral centre, including, renal artery duplex scanning, dialysis access fistulas, transcranial imaging for children with sickle cell disease, as well as ultrasound guidance for interventional procedures.
  • Support can be provided in specialist areas of practice as needed
  • Take a leading role in training and development of our team including STP trainees, vascular science practitioner trainee, and other healthcare professionals
  • Involvement in management and leadership helping to shape the direction of the department
  • Protected time for management, project work, audit and research
  • A supportive team environment but with autonomy, sometimes running clinics and lists in other units
  • A well-equipped department with top of the range scanners, air conditioned scanning rooms, PACS and RIS connectivity, and full admin support

 

Person Specification

Education

Essential

  • Batchelor degree or equivalent.
  • CSVS accreditation OR HCPC registered clinical scientist

Desirable

  • Higher Degree
  • CSVS accreditation AND HCPC registered clinical scientist

Knowledge and skill

Essential

  • Competence in basic vascular ultrasound domains
  • Competence in at least one advanced domain (eg AVF/Renal Doppler/TCD)
  • Good communication skills written - eg clear reports and documentation
  • Good communication skills verbal - explaining concepts to trainees, discussion results with patients and presenting findings to other healthcare collagues

Desirable

  • Competence in multiple advanced domains of scan

Experience

Essential

  • Significant post qualification in non-invasive vascular diagnostics
  • Experience with research, quality management or clinical audit projects
  • Post qualification experience

Desirable

  • Completed train the trainer qualification
  • Experience of line management or leadership
