Are you ready to join our friendly and supportive multi-professional team, in our IQIPS accredited department? Are you looking for a better working balance, with a department that promises 20% time away from scanning? The Vascular team here at Portsmouth are excited to expand our current team of 4 Vascular Scientists, 2 Vascular Administrators and a Vascular Assistant with the appointment of a band 7 Vascular Scientist. Ideally you will have full Society for Vascular Technology AVS accreditation, however if you are an experienced candidate working towards this qualification or are nearing completion of the STP training scheme, we would welcome your application - we promise a fully supported programme to gain your SVT Accreditation. Teamwork and development is at our heart, supporting each other to manage workloads, and helping us to provide excellent levels of care to each of our patients. We ensure that each person plays a role in service development and the auditing of our service, and you will have protected time away from scanning each week to allow for this. CPD participation, as well as Trust based training and development opportunities are encouraged. We provide vascular ultrasound diagnostics to the Wessex Vascular Network and organise and host regular meetings for the Duplex providers in the Network. We work closely with the Network team of Vascular Surgeons, Vascular Radiologists and Vascular Nurse Specialists who work within our unit, with all staff benefitting from this staff development and team training opportunities. We are passionate about the quality of our service, as demonstrated in our patient satisfaction surveys and the feedback we receive. Our facilities include 3 large clinic rooms, all equipped with ergonomic couches and stools, Philips machines (iU22 and Epiq), and we have Affinity 70 machines for our work in Vascular and Renal one-stop clinics. You will be expected to carry out and independently report the full range of investigations, including carotid artery Duplex, upper and lower limb arterial and venous Duplex, EVAR follow-up, pre- operative marking, and pre- and post- fistula assessments. You will be encouraged to participate in the audit activities of the unit and work closely with our clinical colleagues and we look forward to hearing any ideas you have to further develop our service.

Why come to Portsmouth?

Portsmouth is a vibrant and dynamic waterfront city with great shopping, dining, nightlife and summer festivals. Situated on the south coast, it benefits from easy access to blue flag beaches and water sports. There are great local cycling networks and walking routes; and with the South Downs and New Forest national parks also on the doorstep, this is the perfect location for those that enjoy an outdoors lifestyle.

The city is well connected with direct trains to London and Brighton and motorway links to the east, west and north. Southampton airport is just a 20 minute train journey and both Gatwick and Heathrow are just over 60 miles away. We also benefit from numerous ferries to the continent and Isle of Wight. With house prices considerably cheaper than London, Portsmouth is also one of the easiest cities in the UK to purchase a house.
