This section contains information and documentation on the accreditation scheme for Clinical Vascular Scientists and Vascular Sonographers.

The information provided contains details of all the requirements needed to attain AVS (Accredited Vascular Scientist) and maintain AVS via CPD (Continuing Professional Development) along with details of current educational study days.


Accreditation Process

The aim of the SVT Accreditation process is to ensure the achievement and maintenance of high standards of diagnostic vascular investigations for the benefit and safety of patients.

Accreditation as a Clinical Vascular Scientist (AVS) is recommended for all individuals practising vascular ultrasound in the UK or Ireland and is aimed at the ADVANCED SCIENTIST with a minimum of three years full-time postgraduate experience (or part-time equivalent) in a range of key diagnostic vascular investigations.

The accreditation process can be summarised as follows:





Candidates for Accrediation sit two theory exams on Ultrasound physics, Haemodynamics and Instrumentation and Vascular Technology. Information on the theory exams and how to apply can be found on the Theory Exams Page.

Once the candidates have passed both theory exams they can apply for the final practical exam. Information on the practical exam and how to apply can be found on the Practical Exam Page
