Additionally, for the first time we are also welcoming applications to our new SVT Grant Writing Award.

We understand through feedback from SVT members that clinical commitments in the workplace often restrict the ability to perform or even begin a research project, despite the many good ideas out there! Applying for research grants is very time-consuming. We would like to address this, at least in part, by providing small ‘writing grants’ as part of the SVT Grants programme. This will be to a maximum of £500 which we envisage will allow departments to backfill staff for a temporary period, or otherwise free members from clinical duties, enabling them to have the 'space' to formulate and write a research grant application. Research proposals are expected to have already been broadly planned, discussed and accepted by managers/supervisors who are in agreement that, where relevant, backfilling is appropriate and feasible. Applications are welcomed for a writing grant of up to £500 and may be submitted using the appropriate Writing Grant application form. This is a simple one page form, available on the SVT website under the Research / SVT Grant Application sections. Successful applicants will be required to provide evidence of their submitted application

The main SVT Research/Innovation award, with an overall annual £10000 available, provides awards to individuals of up to a maximum of £4000. This is intended for innovative projects, small-scale studies, such as feasibility/pilot projects or audits that may enable service improvements. We have previously supported a broad variety of projects covering methodologies to innovative techniques from popliteal entrapment to 3D AAA ultrasound. This is a great resource for SVT and currently a very underused one.
